Today (Thursday), the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture. This MoU is a direct continuation of the Statement of Intent signed by the Minister of Agriculture and FOOD SECURITY, MK Avi Dichter, along with his Indian counterpart, Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, last January during the Sea the Future 2026 international conference in Eilat.
The MoU constitutes a further step in deepening the strategic partnership between Israel and India, and complements the broader move to promote a free trade agreement that will open new markets for Israeli exports, strengthen the food security of both countries, and encourage investments and advanced technologies. Within the framework of the agreement, the countries will deepen cooperation in many areas, including: Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), development of mechanisms for sustainable fishing, technologies for water saving and recycling, data-based farm management and automation, development of disease-resistant fish breeds, seaweed cultivation, and promotion of innovation in water technologies. The agreement also includes promoting investments in these sectors, as well as joint research and development and connections between research institutes and startups of both countries.
The Ministry notes that this move also integrates with the promotion of the IMEC initiative, the economic corridor connecting India, the Gulf states, Israel, and European countries, and is expected to contribute to the expansion of trade routes, strengthening the blue economy, and positioning the State of Israel as a leading player in water and aquaculture technologies internationally.
