The fourth meeting of the Joint Economic Commission between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State of Israel took place on 20 November 2025 in Jerusalem, co-chaired by Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov and Israeli Minister Zeev Elkin.

Both sides highlighted the strong strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and israel and the expanding cooperation since the opening of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Israel in 2023. The Azerbaijani delegation of about 30 senior officials held sector-specific discussions with their Israeli counterparts to advance collaboration across multiple fields.

The meeting reviewed progress in bilateral ties and reaffirmed commitments to deepen cooperation in trade, energy, cyber, technology, agriculture, water, health, transportation, innovation, space, education, science, tourism, and more. The parties noted the significant growth in bilateral trade.

The delegations expressed satisfaction with the Commission’s achievements and agreed to continue strengthening intergovernmental dialogue. The fifth meeting of the Joint Economic Commission will take place in Baku in 2027.
 

Jerusalem, 28 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The State of Israel has filed a request with the Haifa District Court, sitting as a maritime court, to permanently confiscate for the benefit of the state treasury the ship “Madleen” from the “Freedom Flotilla”, which was detained by the Navy in June 2025, while attempting to violate the legal naval blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

The request submitted by the Haifa District Attorney’s Office (Civil) is based on international law, which grants countries the right to seize vessels that attempt to violate a maritime blockade, and the court the authority to order their confiscation.

According to the law, a breach or attempt to breach the embargo of Gaza gives the state the authority to search the vessel and seize it.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

On our 77th Day of Independence, the wonder of Israel’s revival continues to thrill us. While our soldiers fight on the front, you, dear citizens of Israel, you embrace them with tremendous love. Even when there are disagreements among us – at the moment of truth we all stand together: We stand together in mutual solidarity, in giving, in unparalleled inner strength.

In our national anthem we sing about the fulfilment of the hope to be a free nation in our own land, the Land of Zion and Jerusalem. Therefore, we will continue to do battle — and ensure our freedom. We will continue to fight — and protect our homeland. We will continue building the land — because we only have one home.

A home for the Jews, and for our brothers the Druze, the Christians, the Muslims, the Bedouin, the Circassians — all of the citizens of Israel.

This, our 77th Independence Day, is dedicated to oz [strength], two Hebrew letters that comprise ’77’.

And as it is said in the Bible [Job 12:16]: “with him is strength and wisdom”.

With strength, with wisdom, and with great spirit, G-d willing — we will complete our victory.

Prime Minister Netanyahu:

“One year ago, it was still not clear, but we had changed the face of the Middle East, including with the means that have been described here; however, in my view, means are secondary. It was really thanks to the immense strength of life inherent in this people, who indeed came together in trying times.

I am talking about the fighting men and women, and the commanders. I call them lions. They went out and fought, and some of them fell, and some were wounded. To see those who were wounded, we see Medan here and we see his friends. There is a young man who lost three limbs, he holds his one arm and says ‘I want to go back; I want to fight.’ What immense spirit this is.

We overturned the situation and we brought Hezbollah to its knees. We toppled the Assad regime, and we have another major task. We attacked Iran. We attacked the Houthis but we have another mission; I am not minimizing it. But I am certain that we are equal to the task, thanks to what I see around this table and what we will see tomorrow evening. There is a great spirit here; there is no explanation other than the spirit to explain the abilities of this country, a small but huge country with a huge spirit.

I simply want to salute you and to tell you that I am certain that thanks to the example that you have set and the efforts that you are making, that we will be equal to any challenge. I have also discovered that we have a very promising younger generation.

Of course, we have another important mission, not just to win, but to also bring back home. As of today, we have returned196 of our hostages, 147 alive. Up to another 24 are alive. I say ‘up to’ and the rest, of course, to our sorrow, are not alive. And we will bring them back. This is the same spirit.”

Sara Netanyahu:

“We have here a range not just of occupations but also a great range of ages for the future, and people who have contributed greatly over the years and who are continuing to contribute. This gives much hope; first of all, that age is no obstacle and that it is possible to do as one desires.

Alongside the great pain, there is also great hope, but much needs to be done to realize it. I think that the way before us is still long. Thank you for the force of will and for joining in. I know that all of you have also been active and are continuing to be; thank you.”

Minister Miri Regev:

“We increased the number of torches this year due to the war, just like we did last year. For every torch, we have, in effect, three bearers. One torch only has two bearers, the torch for the hostages, in order to show the absence of the 59 people whose return home we are awaiting, pursuant to all of the activity that you have led in order to return all of the hostages home quickly.

Holding a torch ceremony in wartime is not simple; it is very, very complicated. We will certainly not allow terrorism and the terrorist organizations to win. Therefore, we tried to bring here the right panel and mosaic of Israeli society, that is made up of so many good people who decided at the last moment, or at the first moment, each one according to their personal feelings, and of course their convenience, to do something for Israeli society.”

The State of Israel and the United States,  (Friday, 16 January 2026), at the City of David in Jerusalem, signed a Joint Statement in the field of Artificial Intelligence. This follows Israel‘s joining last month of the Pax Silica initiative, which unites leading nations in the field of AI. Out of the nine leading nations in this sector, Israel was selected to be the first country to sign a Joint Statement with the U.S.The Joint Statement signed today is another step in advancing the State of Israel toward global leadership in Artificial Intelligence, as part of the flagship goals of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 

The memorandum was signed by the Head of the National AI Directorate, Brig.- Gen. (Res.) Erez Eskel, and the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg, in the presence of Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee.

Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar:

Today – as part of the Pax Silica initiative – Israel and the United States are issuing a Joint Statement on the launch of a strategic partnership: On A.I., research and critical technologies. This is another milestone in our unbreakable alliance. Under the leadership of President Trump, our relations are at historic heights. Jerusalem, 15 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz signed a proclamation today (Thursday) defining Iranian State Bank Melli as a terrorist organization. He did so at the request of security agencies and on the recommendation of the Headquarters for Combating Economic Terrorism at the Ministry of Defense, and in accordance with its authority under Section 11 of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

Bank Mali is a key factor in the Iranian regime’s transfer of funds to terrorist organizations, and serves as the regime’s central financial arm in financing terrorist activity throughout the Middle East and beyond, said Katz’s office.

This is a government bank in the service of the regime that operates one of the regime’s most extensive cover networks, for the purpose of circumventing international sanctions and laundering money. Among other things, the bank provides extensive financial services to Iran’s security forces, including providing bank accounts and transferring funds to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the Quds Force, which are directly involved in financing, directing, and operating terrorist organizations.

“Declaring Bank Mali a terrorist organization will help thwart one of the main funding routes for Iran’s terrorist proxies,” said Katz’s office noting that it was declared a terrorist organization by the United States in 2018.

Israel’s Defense Ministry added that this move, alongside the previous similar decisions regarding the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Bank Mellat, and Bank Shahr, constitutes “another layer in the ongoing effort by the security establishment to damage the economic infrastructure of Iranian terrorism and prevent the financing of the activities of terrorist organizations operating against the State of Israel and its citizens.”

Jerusalem, 15 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — An Israeli-Japanese breakthrough in quantum particles brings science one step closer to reliable quantum computers. A team of scientists from Israel’s Weizmann Institute and Japan’s National Institute of Materials Science found particles that can “remember” what happened in previous quantum interactions.

The research focused on non-Abelian anyons, exotic quantum particles that appear in ultra-thin materials under extreme conditions and can store information by “remembering” the order in which they move around each other, making them promising building blocks for error-resistant quantum computers.

The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature, showed evidence of non-Abelian anyons in bilayer graphene, a material made of two ultra-thin layers of carbon atoms.

“For the first time, we have experimental evidence of particles that behave like non-Abelian anyons,” said Dr. Yuval Ronen, head of the research team. “This research takes us another step toward building quantum computers that are fault-tolerant and more useful beyond narrow research experiments.”

Anyons were first predicted in the 1980s, but only simpler “Abelian anyons” had been observed. Non-Abelian anyons are more complex: they not only change a quantum property called the wave function when swapped, they also change its shape, which encodes memory of previous actions.

Quantum computers use qubits, which can exist in multiple states at once. This gives them the potential to solve problems that today’s computers cannot. But qubits are very fragile: tiny disturbances can destroy the information they hold. Non-Abelian anyons could solve this problem because they store information across the entire system of particles instead of in a single particle, making them much less sensitive to errors.

“The replacement of non-Abelian anyons leaves a trace in the system’s wave function,” Ronen explained. “If we swap three of these particles in one order, we get a different result than if we swap them in another order. This ability to remember the sequence is exactly what allows them to store information.”

To study the particles, the team guided them along precise loop paths in bilayer graphene and measured the resulting patterns in electrical resistance — a method inspired by a 19th-century light experiment. Surprisingly, the scientists found the particles carried half an electron’s charge instead of the expected quarter, suggesting that two non-Abelian anyons were moving together.

“We haven’t been able to separate them yet, but this is an important step toward observing these particles directly,” Dr. Ronen said. “The next challenge is to see exactly how each order of particle exchanges produces a unique signature. That will bring us closer to fault-tolerant quantum computers.”

According to the researchers, even storing the state of just 300 qubits would require a classical computer to remember more than 34 quintillion numbers, showing just how extraordinary the potential of these particles is for the future of computing.

If fully harnessed, non-Abelian anyons could make quantum computers much more powerful and reliable. They could solve problems that are impossible for classical computers, from predicting chemical reactions for new drugs and materials to improving weather forecasts. They could also strengthen cybersecurity with new types of encryption and advance fundamental science by revealing new quantum behaviors.

Jerusalem, 11 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli medical device company Butterfly Medical announced the successful completion of its pivotal international trial for the Butterfly Prostatic Retraction Device, a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland.

The 244-patient study, conducted in Boston and Yokneam, Israel, confirmed the device’s safety and efficacy in restoring urinary flow without surgery. The CE Mark-approved implant is now positioned for a U.S. FDA pre-market approval application. Butterfly Medical’s device offers an alternative for men dissatisfied with medication but seeking to avoid invasive surgery, potentially reshaping global BPH care.

Jerusalem, 31 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Arbe Robotics said its radar technology has been selected for a Level 4 autonomous vehicle program by a China-based state-owned automaker, through a partnership with Beijing-based Hirain Technologies.

Under the arrangement, Hirain will supply the automaker with front-facing radar units that are powered by Arbe’s ultra high-definition radar chipset. Arbe’s proprietary chipset has the largest channel array count in the industry with 48 receiving and 48 transmitting RF channels, and a dedicated processor chip that provides dense data enabling AI-based post-processing.

Vehicle production is expected to begin in December 2026, with thousands of vehicles slated to reach the market in 2027.
