Jerusalem, 19 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the “Leket Israel” association, is launching a new pilot to rescue surplus agricultural produce from farmers across the country and transfer it to those in need through an innovative real-time reporting application.

“In a reality where 2.6 million tons of food are thrown away in Israel every year,” said the Ministry, “saving food and reducing food loss are important and central issues.”

The pilot, which will be launched as part of the implementation of the principles of the National Food Security Plan 2050, is based on the development of a GIS-based application that will allow farmers to report in real time on surplus produce that is forming in the field or at the packing house, and will allow the “Leket Israel” association to come and rescue them. Thus, thousands of kilograms of edible produce, which could have been sent to landfill, will be transferred to those in need, and will help increase the accessibility of many and diverse populations to fresh, healthy and nutritious food.

Beyond its significant social contribution, the pilot is also expected to reduce the environmental damage resulting from food landfilling and strengthen the connection between farmers and the community.

Until the move, the farmers’ reporting system to the association was based on telephone contact, which involved long handling times and high operational costs. The new application will enable a transition from a reactive system to a proactive and digital system, thereby making it possible to optimize the response, shorten collection times, and ensure that the produce collected is fresher and has a longer shelf life.

Jerusalem, 12 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — During the night, hundreds of police raided the Shu’fat refugee camp in northern Jerusalem, arrested eight suspects and seized weapons, ammunition, drugs and stolen IDF (Israel Defense Forces) equipment.

This came as the “Capital Shield” program was launched Sunday night, part of the Israel Police’s fight against criminal elements, terrorist infrastructures, and troublemakers, with the participation of hundreds of Border Police surrounding Jerusalem and Jerusalem District police officers.

This is a large-scale operational plan that was formulated upon the assumption of the position of Jerusalem District Commander, Major General Avshalom Peled, as a strategic response to the need to strengthen sovereignty and deepen governance in the area surrounding Jerusalem and the villages adjacent to the fence. The operation focuses on offensive and proactive activity in the heart of the area, while combining precise intelligence with advanced operational capabilities, with the aim of increasing the personal security of all residents of Jerusalem in particular and Israel in general.

Jerusalem, 8 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Approximately 750 military reservists are expected to participate in programs for artificial intelligence leaders in the high-tech industry organized by Israel’s Innovation Authority, Department for Demobilized and Reserve Soldiers at the Ministry of Defense, and Ministry of Labor.

“This is a move aimed at strengthening reservists and discharged soldiers who played a central role in the national effort, reducing knowledge and experience gaps that arose following prolonged absence from work during the war, and training them to lead in the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence tools in research and development processes in organizations,” said the Ministry of Labor.

The move, in which six programs on the subject of artificial intelligence were selected, is intended to strengthen reservists and allow them to bridge knowledge gaps created by prolonged absence from work, especially in the rapidly developing fields of artificial intelligence.
Providing up-to-date and practical tools will allow reservists in core technological roles to lead innovative projects, streamline processes, and strengthen the resilience and productivity of Israeli high-tech.

It is also intended to reduce the employment concerns reported among experienced workers in light of the accelerated penetration of artificial intelligence tools into the labor market.

The Staff for the Integration of Ethiopian Immigrants in the Administration and Society Division of the Prime Minister’s Office is publishing today the summary report of the activities of the Government Program for the Integration of Ethiopian Immigrants for the years 2023–2024. The report summarizes the activities of the inter-ministerial government program, which operates under the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Office and in cooperation with government ministries and local authorities, and presents a comprehensive overview of the program’s implementation, the scope of activities, and the progress of goals in the areas of Education, employment, welfare, Health, and social engagement.

The report presents key achievements recorded in recent years, such as: in the field of Education – where we are witnessing equality in the rate of eligibility for a matriculation certificate among the community’s youth compared to the national average, and in the field of employment – it shows that more than half of the participants in dedicated programs have successfully integrated into the labor market, and their average salary has increased by approximately 47%. This is alongside challenges that still require a response and continued action, such as increasing high-productivity employment and more significant integration into higher Education. These and others – served as the basis for extending and deepening the program and updating the policy within the framework of the government decision made last July (No. 3243) for the years 2025–2026. Continued attention to the integration of Ethiopian immigrants is important to the Prime Minister’s Office management and is on its agenda for promoting and implementing this government decision.

Today, for the first time, the Ministry of Health is publishing the National Programs Report, which includes details on hospital scores for programs focusing on improving medical quality, performance, inpatient care, and human resources. These topics are detailed in 19 national programs, each with its own goals and metrics to evaluate hospital performance and determine incentive funding. The total funds transferred to hospitals based on these metrics reached 466 million NIS in 2023 and 516 million NIS in 2024. 

The national programs are based on outputs and results to ensure efficient and transparent resource allocation. They serve as an incentive to improve performance and quality of care. Through these programs, the Ministry of Health aims to allocate budgets wisely and drive continuous improvement in the healthcare system. Publishing this report reflects the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and better patient care.

Every part of the budgeting process is part of a broad effort to constantly improve the healthcare system and drive structural change. This flexible model can be updated to meet the system’s needs and address future healthcare and technology challenges.

The guiding principles for prioritizing national programs are alignment with the Ministry of Health’s multi-year plan, incentive-based budgeting based on quality and output, and encouraging efficiency and better service.

The national programs reflecting major initiatives by the Ministry of Health include the following:
Improving care in Emergency Departments (ED) – focusing on reducing wait times through fast and accurate triage, initial doctor examinations, and better management systems; Preventing functional decline in the elderly during hospitalization – a dedicated program to identify and treat patients at high risk of functional or cognitive decline; In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) activities – a program to move IVF services from private to public providers while improving quality and availability through better infrastructure, staffing, and technology; Improving cybersecurity in general medical centers – a program to prepare for emergencies by strengthening network segmentation, threat detection (XDR), and risk assessments.

The national programs we are publishing today are a key management tool to set clear standards, measure progress, and reward real improvements in service availability and care quality. Jerusalem, 29 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Authority for Socio-Economic Development in Druze and Circassian Localities and Innovation Authority announced the launch of national programs to promote technological entrepreneurship in Druze and Circassian communities, with an investment of approximately 15 million shekels ($4.7 million).

As part of the measures, dedicated innovation centers will be established that will provide a broad response to the development of technological entrepreneurship, connecting to high-tech, academia and investors, as part of a broad government move to strengthen the regional economy and integrate additional populations into the Israeli high-tech industry.

The new centers join 13 innovation centers currently operating in the periphery, from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat, as part of a broad program by the Innovation Authority, operated in cooperation with various government ministries, and aimed at strengthening local entrepreneurship, developing human capital, and expanding the engines of economic growth in Israel.

Jerusalem, 21 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Tel Aviv University (TAU) and Google Israel have launched a new three-year program to advance research in core areas of artificial intelligence (AI). Google.org is providing $1 million in funding to support scholarships, research grants, and educational initiatives. The program, led by TAU’s Center for AI & Data Science under Prof. Yishay Mansour, will focus on foundational AI research, including language models, algorithmic efficiency, and privacy.

New initiatives include an honors program for graduate students and the BITS of AI program for teens from Israel’s geographic and social peripheries.

Jerusalem, 17 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Authority for the Advancement of Women said that, in light of the success of the “Fighting Violence Against Women” program implemented in local authorities, and in light of the ongoing state of emergency over the past two years, the Authority, in professional and financial cooperation with the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security, worked to launch a second cycle of the program.

The program consists of a basket of activities aimed at strengthening social services in the fight against violence against women and strengthening the personal and community resilience of residents of the local authority, and in particular women, by promoting awareness-raising activities, training courses and guidance in the field of preventing violence against women and personal empowerment.
