Firefighters battle wildfires in central Israel.
A large wildfire in the Jerusalem Hills fanned by strong winds and dry conditions forced authorities to cancel for the first time Israel’s traditional Independence Day torch-lighting ceremony. Several communities were evacuated and firefighting crews were deployed to battle the blaze.
Voting in the World Zionist Congress elections ends this coming Sunday, May 4th. As left-wing groups ramp up efforts to gain control of key national institutions in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls on Jews around the world to unite and vote for the ZOA-15 slate: “They’ve been courageously defending the Jewish people and the State of Israel, without hesitation and without apology.”
Amid deadly Sunni-Druze clashes near Damascus, the Israeli Defense Forces struck Syria in a warning to the extremist Islamic groups there, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said on Wednesday. But one Israeli Druze official told The Press Service of Israel that airstrikes would not be enough.
