Israel is a country and a land bursting with historical, religious and cultural contexts. Besides religious Israel, which includes many sites related to Judaism and other religions, there are “secular” sites that are related to the fledgling state of Israel. These are diverse, and one may find endless historical sites to visit. In Israel, various organizations are operating with the aim of preserving these sites. Besides Israel’s Antiquities Authority, there is the Society for Preservation of Israel Heritage Sites, which focuses on saving and preserving sites. Many sites are related to the eternal struggle for attention between the existence of the state and the history of the Holocaust. Together with the many heritage sites, it gets a bit crowded. This is in addition to Remembrance Day, on which Israel honors its fallen.
